Returns, warranty & RMA

Every product we sell carries a genuine manufacturer warranty, backed by our distributor. Here's how returns, faults and repairs work — and the consumer rights you're entitled to under South African law.

Your rights at a glance

Your cover is what South African law requires, plus the manufacturer’s warranty supplied through our distributor — we don’t add a store warranty or return policy of our own. Whichever gives you the stronger remedy is the one we’ll use, and we handle the claim for you.

7 days

Change your mind on an online order — return it within 7 days (ECT Act).

From 1 year

The manufacturer’s warranty, set by each brand and supplied through our distributor. See the warranty section below.

7-day cooling-off

Because you bought online without seeing the item in person, the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act gives you 7 calendar days from delivery to change your mind — no reason needed. To qualify, the item must be:

  • Unused and in fully resalable condition, with no activation or registration.
  • Complete — all accessories, cables, free gifts and manuals included.
  • In its original, undamaged packaging with seals intact.

Software, digital licences and consumables that have been opened or activated are excluded. Return delivery for a change of mind is at your cost; once we’ve received and checked the item, we refund the purchase price within the timeframe below.

Faulty on arrival (DOA)

If a product is dead on arrival or develops a fault within the first 7 days, we treat it as DOA. Contact us straight away and we’ll arrange collection at no charge to you. Once the fault is confirmed you can choose:

Warranty

Every product carries the manufacturer’s own warranty, administered through our distributor. The length is set by the manufacturer — not by us — and we log and manage every claim on your behalf, so you deal with one contact: us.

Warranty is as per the manufacturer

The exact warranty for each item is shown on its product page and on your invoice — always the brand’s own period. Where a brand offers longer cover, that longer period applies.

How to log an RMA

RMA stands for Return Merchandise Authorisation — the reference we open for every repair or return so it can be tracked end to end.

  1. Contact us

Email sales@salaptop.co.za or call us with your order number, the SKU and a short description of the fault.

  2. We issue an RMA number

We confirm the warranty status and send you an RMA reference plus return instructions.

  3. Pack the item

Include everything it came with and write the RMA number on the outside — not on the product box itself.

  4. Send it in

Drop it at our Centurion office or use the courier we arrange. DOA collections are on us.

  5. Test & resolve

We test the unit with the distributor or manufacturer and repair, replace or refund it — keeping you updated throughout.

What’s not covered

A warranty covers manufacturing defects. It doesn’t cover:

  • Accidental, physical or liquid damage
  • Unauthorised repairs or tampering
  • Wear items and consumables (batteries past cycle life, ink)
  • Software issues, viruses and lost data
  • Missing accessories or serial-number damage
  • Products outside their warranty period

Please back up your data before sending any device in — repairs and replacements may wipe storage.

Refunds & timeframes

Approved refunds are paid back to your original payment method. Card and Instant EFT payments made through PayFast are reversed to the same account; where that isn’t possible we pay by EFT to the account holder who placed the order.

Turnaround

Within 7 days

From approval and receipt of the returned item — well within the period South African law allows.

You’ll need

  • Order number & proof of payment
  • Banking details (for EFT refunds)
  • The returned item, complete

This page is a plain-language summary of how we handle returns and warranties. It doesn't limit your rights under the Consumer Protection Act (68 of 2008) or the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act (25 of 2002). Where this summary and those Acts differ, the Acts apply.
